CASE HISTORY: Reliable, continuous mould cooling with the HP 2.0.3 Kit

Published in 06/08/2026

Cooling large moulds requires high flow rates and operational continuity.

Fiorini designed a custom HP 2.0.3 Kit featuring two active pumps and a backup pump.

An inverter adjusts the pumps based on actual demand, optimising energy consumption.

The dedicated frame facilitates handling and installation, reducing start-up times.

Ensuring production continuity in mould cooling

In the plastics processing sector, mould cooling is a crucial stage for maintaining production continuity. The customer needed to manage large moulds using a system capable of ensuring high flow rates, stable pressure, and long-term reliability.

The solution also had to be easy to handle and install, minimising the work required on-site at the factory.

A backup pump to reduce downtime risk

Fiorini designed a customised HP 2.0.3 Kit with three centrifugal pumps: two for normal operation and one available as a standby unit. This configuration enhances system reliability and allows any maintenance work to be managed while minimising the risk of interrupting the production process.

The customer thus benefits from a more reliable, easily manageable system designed around the application’s specific needs.

Technical configuration

The system integrates three centrifugal pumps, two active and a backup one, with a flow rate of 250 m³/h per pump, a head of 55 metres of water, 55 kW motors, and 216 mm diameter impellers. It also includes DN250 AISI 304 stainless steel manifolds, an electrical panel with an inverter, expansion vessels, a safety valve, isolation valves, and check valves.

Components, controls, and safety devices are combined into a single solution to simplify system monitoring and maintenance.

Optimised consumption and faster installation

The inverter-equipped electrical panel automatically regulates pump operation based on actual process demands. Power output is adjusted to match operating conditions, preventing energy waste and reducing component stress.

The entire system is assembled on a dedicated frame designed to facilitate transport, handling, and on-site positioning.

The customer receives an integrated hydraulic unit, requiring less on-site work and ensuring faster commissioning.

Faster installation and reduced on-site work

Logistics and installation requirements were taken into consideration right from the very beginning of the design process. The HP 2.0.3 Kit is assembled on a dedicated frame designed to make transporting and handling the entire system easy.

This provides the customer with an integrated hydraulic unit that minimises on-site work, simplifies activity coordination, and accelerates commissioning.

A solution developed around customer needs

The project stems from analysing the application, sizing the hydraulics, and customising the configuration. The Fiorini approach begins with the customer’s operational needs to develop systems that are efficient, reliable, and easy to install, a method of shared innovation aligned with the principles of continuous solution improvement.

The customer now has a system capable of ensuring proper cooling for large-scale moulds. Features such as the backup pump, the inverter-based control, and the dedicated frame ensure operational continuity, optimised energy consumption, and reduced installation times.
