CASE HISTORY: System continuity even in the event of a fault or maintenance? Fiorini produces a special pump unit.

Preventing a system shut-down due to a fault or routine maintenance work: these were the requirements requested by a major French manufacturer for the air conditioning system in its data center.
A request that called upon all Fiorini’s ingenuity to design and produce a custom pump unit, with a layout that allowed maintenance work without shutting down the system and ensuring non-stop operation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The solution was a dual circuit water pump unit with a double tank, housed in a single structure and controlled by an electrical cabinet that was also duplicated.
Consisting of two dual pump units, double tank, five 100L expansion vessels, electrical cabinet with double inverters and customer’s PLC compartment, the pump unit thus ending up measuring 6000 x 2400 metres overall, making it one of the biggest ever produced by Fiorini.
Two sets of components, which can be easily accessed, intercepted and excluded: these are the features which allow this custom pump unit to fulfil all the continuity requirements requested by the customer.
It is, for example, possible to dismantle one of the tanks by raising the removable aluminium cladding cover, isolating the hydraulic circuit, emptying it and opening the connection points. It can thus be taken for repair while, in the meantime, the “twin” tank ensures continuity of the unit operation. The electrical cabinet is also produced along the same logic as the hydraulic part: everything is duplicated. With the right precautions, therefore, it is possible to service the component, isolate the part on which to carry out the work and leave the unit up and running.
A tough challenge, successfully met by Fiorini, thanks to its ability to imagine alternatives to standard solutions and, above all, its ability to produce them. To this end, long-term experience in working with modular metal structures proved to be a winning strategy, meaning that the even the most diverse layouts, conceived by the designers, can be produced quickly.
